Bru Signs New Deal - Ipswich Town News

Midfielder Kevin Bru has signed a new contract until 2018 with an option for a further season.

"Kevin Bru’s signed a new contract," manager Mick McCarthy said. "It’s been done for quite a while, I think he’s just signed it today. I’m delighted, he’s been excellent.

Mauritius international Bru, 26, joined the Blues initially on trial in the summer having left Levski Sofia and did enough to win a deal until the end of the season with an option for a further year.

McCarthy says Bru's success illustrates the quality that can come in on trial: "We’re taking them on Bosmans and free transfers, sometimes ragamuffins come in off the street and we take a look at them and I think it’s important that we do.

"I sometimes think it's case of nothing ventured, nothing gained. I get agents saying ‘Will you have a look at him’ and I will take a look at them unless I’ve got players in those areas and I’ll tell them straight away whether they’re worth keeping for the following day and a bit more.

"We took two of them, Balint Bajner [who subsequently joined Notts County] and Kevin Bru. And Balint’s contributed. He contributed in the first game because we won.

"He contributed at Birmingham because he ended up winning the ball and we crossed and we scored the equaliser.

"I take the positives out of all of them, but Kevin Bru's’s been different class. He’s been outstanding and just got better and better.

"But he was at [the French national football centre] at Clairefontaine as a kid. He’s got ability, him. They don’t out them in there if they’ve been rubbish.”
