Bent on Big Night - Ipswich Town News

Darren Bent was unsurprisingly on top of the world after his two-goal salvo helped the England U19s beat Germany 3-1 at Portman Road last night. The Town striker was awarded the Man of the Match prize while team-mate Matt Bloomfield was also happy to have been involved.

Bent said: "It felt really good out there. The crowd were brilliant and lifted me. It was a fantastic feeling to score, especially at Portman Road. I missed a couple of chances to get a hat-trick but I'll settle for the two goals."

Bloomfield, a local lad from Felixstowe who goes out with the daughter for former Town defender Kevin Steggles, was ecstatic at having made his England U19s debut in front of so many familiar faces: "It was an amazing experience, a really brilliant feeling. We both had a lot of family and friends in the crowd. It was superb. As soon as I came on, I wanted to prove myself and worked really hard to adapt to the pace of the game but it was amazing."

Both are back at Town and in Academy action this weekend.
