Town are expected to sign Leicester City winger Anthony Knockaert on loan later in the week.
TWTD understands that the 23-year-old is currently in France with the Leicester squad having been given a few days off as they have no match either in midweek or at the weekend.
A deal is believed to be close to being done but won’t be completed until the Frenchman returns, with an announcement likely on Thursday or Friday ahead of the derby at Norwich on Sunday.
Quizzed on his interest in Knockaert yesterday, Town boss Mick McCarthy confirmed that he had made approaches for players and that the former Guingamp man is someone he rates highly: "I’ve spoken to lots of clubs about lots of players, if someone throws that one out.
"He’s a quality player and if I could get somebody of that quality then why wouldn’t I? But I’ve spoken to loads of people. I don’t know how these stories get out, somebody tells [someone].”
Pressed further on Knockaert’s quality, he added: "And all the others I’ve spoken to have as well!”
The former France U20 and U21 international, who can also play in an advanced central midfield role, was a key member of the Foxes’ promotion side last season but has made only five starts and six sub appearances this year.
Knockaert started his senior career with French side Guingamp before joining Leicester in August 2012, signing a three-year deal which ends this summer.
