Town Enter InterToto - Ipswich Town News

George Burley has revealed that Town will enter this year's InterToto Cup in a bid to bring a second successive season of European football to Portman Road.

George Burley said last year that Town would not enter the competition but clearly his mind has been changed this time around: "We have applied to enter the competition in the third round and if we were invited to take part then that would start on July 22nd. The second round starts on July 6th and we feel that would be too early for us and may affect our preparations for the Premiership season."

Burley's opinion of the InterToto could have been swung by Bobby Robson who believes that his Newcastle side's participation in the InterToto last season helped them get off to a good start in the Premiership. Other clubs to have applied to enter this season include Aston Villa and Everton, although they want to join at the second round stage.

Clubs have to finish at least 12th in the Premiership to be considered while a finish in the top eight is likely to give a side an automatic European place this season.
