Wright Story Refuted by Club - Ipswich Town News

Reports this morning suggesting once more that Richard Wright will be on his way to Chelsea are being denied by Town. A Portman Road spokesperson said "Don't believe everything you read in the papers". The story, which appeared in several places, suggested that Chelsea and Ipswich had completed the deal which would see Wright move to Chelsea for £5 million at the end of the season. It has also been suggested that this deal is what paid for Marcus Stewart last week, with little mention of the £6 million gleaned from the sale of Kieron Dyer.

The stories also claimed that Wright would be available on a Bosman at the end of the 2000-01 season which is not strictly true. Wright will still be under 24 at this point and so will command a fee if he moves within the British Isles. It all sounds like the work of a journalist trying to invent scoops to me.

Town are rumoured to be signing Romario in an unprecedented move, according to reports today. See how easy it is?

Darryl Aston, the bonkers Huddersfield Town fan who named his new baby Marcus Stewart in honour of the striker merely days before he jumped ship and signed for Ipswich, has been invited to Saturday's game at Portman Road along with his family, including Little Marcus himself. ITFC have also arranged a meeting between the youngster and the real Marcus Stewart where he (Little Marcus) will be presented with Town shirt signed by the former Huddersfield man. Town are also to make Little Marcus an honorary member of the Junior Blues Crew. Whether that wil please his Dad or not isn't known. Isn't it nice to be associated with such a lovely club? Ahhh.
