Wilnis Out of Trip - Ipswich Town News

Fabian Wilnis has been left out of the Town squad travelling to Cyprus for a five-day training camp. The squad left on Wednesday and will return on Sunday.

Town flew out from Heathrow at 9.45am this morning after spending last night in a London hotel. While at Heathrow they were filmed by the BBC's Airport programme which is concentrating on Cyprus Air in a show in their next run.

As well as the missing Dutchman two other high profile players won't be in Cyprus. John McGreal is remaining in England as his wife is about to give birth while Ulrich le Pen is in France as his wife is also nearling the end of her pregnancy.

In addition to the players and entire coaching staff, directors Richard Moore and Lord Ryder and fitness coach Simon Thadani also made the trip.

Wilnis's absence seems to indicate that he is now completely out of manager George Burley's plans. Or perhaps suggests a move elsewhere may be imminent. Wilnis, who asked to be transfer-listed in January, has previously suggested that there are clubs interested in him. West Ham and Fulham have both been linked with the 31-year-old Dutchman.

Town will be training twice a day on the camp and will take on Russian side Alania Vladikavkaz on Saturday in a charity game at the Garrison Stadium in Dhekelia (KO 3pm).

Cyprus squad: Marshall, Sereni, Salmon, Makin, Hreidarsson, Clapham, Bramble, Venus, Gaardsøe, Holland, Magilton, Reuser, Peralta, George, T Miller, Wright, Couñago, M Bent, Stewart and Armstrong.
