Winger Cameron Stewart, who moved to League One Barnsley on loan on Saturday, hopes he still has a future with the Blues, despite having made just two FA Cup sub appearances since joining Town following his release by Hull City last summer.
"I’d like to think so,” the 23-year-old told BBC Radio Sheffield. "Until somebody tells me no, I’ll try and chase that but I think you’ve got to be realistic sometimes and when things don’t go as well as they [might], sometimes you’ve got to be prepared to move on.
"Until someone turns round to me and says ‘Look Cameron, we want you out’ or what not, then I will fight for my place there. But I’m open to options.”
Stewart’s move to Barnsley came about very quickly, the former Manchester United trainee having travelled with the Blues squad to Watford before linking up with the Tykes and making his debut and playing the first 73 minutes of their 1-1 draw with Preston at Oakwell.
He added: "It’s been a long season, I’ve not played many games whatsoever, other than a little bit in the FA Cup.
"It’s a good loan move for me to come and get some games and enjoy myself a little bit.”
Stewart, who signed a three-year deal with the Blues, believes various factors have limited his opportunities at Portman Road: "Maybe a bit of stiff competition, maybe whether the manager fancied putting me in or not. I’m not sure.
"I was injured at the start of the season and that set me back, so things like that have all played a part.
"In the end it was time for me to play games, I couldn’t really sit out a full year of doing nothing, I think that would be poor on my behalf and the easy way out.”
His primary target is to help Barnsley into the League One play-offs, they’re currently seventh, but on a personal level he’s also out to impress not just his Town manager but everyone else.
"My secondary aim is to more than show Mick McCarthy, show everybody that I’m out here and I want to play football,” the Manchester-born player continued.
"I’m not going to just sit there at Ipswich and do nothing, I want to be playing football, I want to be doing things and whether that’s at Ipswich or somewhere else next season, who knows.”
