Quiet Deadline Day Expected - Ipswich Town News

Deadline day is expected to pass quietly at Portman Road with manager Mick McCarthy not thought to be looking to add further to his squad. Football League clubs have until 5pm today to bring players in on emergency loans.

Town will announce the extensions of Luke Varney and Richard Chaplow’s loans until the end of the season, the pair having initially signed for a month with a break put in their spells so that they could remain at the club until after the play-offs.

The South London Press is reporting that the Blues, Fulham, Wolves and Watford have made enquiries to Crystal Palace regarding former loanee Jonny Williams, but the Wales international is not expected to rejoin Town today.

As previously reported, the Blues would have been able to re-sign the 21-year-old for the period of his previous loan spell which was remaining after he got injured if the Football League had given dispensation - and the club have confirmed that they did seek clarification that this was the case - but the midfielder only returned to first team training recently and the Blues are understood not to have pursued their interest.

McCarthy has brought in Varney, Chaplow and Chris Wood on emergency loans in the last few weeks, while Luke Hyam and David McGoldrick are close to returning from knee and thigh injuries respectively and could be involved in the squad for the Bournemouth game on Good Friday.

It is possible that there could be moves in the other direction with fringe players such as Alex Henshall available for loan.

Already this week winger Cameron Stewart has joined Barnsley and keeper Michael Crowe Woking.

Elsewhere, Arsenal defender Semi Ajayi, who was on trial with the Blues and played a game for the U21s in January, has joined Cardiff City on loan. The 21-year-old is set to leave the Gunners in the summer.

Midfielder Jack Collison, who spent a short spell with Town earlier in the season without making a senior appearance, is again reported to be set to join the MK Dons.
