Town Looking to Make Late Addition as Clubs Fight for Williams - Ipswich Town News

TWTD understands that Town are now looking to make an addition to their squad before this afternoon’s 5pm emergency loan deadline, with the Blues believed to be in a four-way fight for former loanee Jonny Williams.

It had appeared that Blues boss Mick McCarthy was happy to stick with the players currently at his disposal but the club are now working on making a further signing with Williams thought to be that player.

This morning the South London Press reported that the Blues, Fulham, Wolves and Watford had all made enquiries to Crystal Palace regarding Wales international Williams, who recently returned to training having been out of action since suffering a groin injury midway through his spell at Town in November.

Wolves manager Kenny Jackett has now confirmed his interest in the 21-year-old, adding that the Molineux club are facing opposition from elsewhere: "Jonny Williams is a player we have made an enquiry for and expressed an interest in. But there's a lot of interest in him.”

Midlands sources report that Town, the Hornets and Cottagers are the clubs battling Wolves for Williams’s signature.

Although clubs are not allowed to take a player on two emergency loans in the same season, in situations such as Williams’s where a player had a spell cut short by injury then clause 53.3.12* of the Football League rules allows that loan to be restarted at the point the injury was suffered. Williams would have 53 days of his spell remaining.

*53.3.12 The Executive shall have discretion to extend the maximum duration of 93 days for an Emergency Loan in extenuating circumstances, such circumstances to be determined in the Executive’s absolute discretion.
