Fryers: I Can Still Make It With Palace - Ipswich Town News

Zeki Fryers, who has joined Town on loan from Crystal Palace until the end of the season, still believes he has what it takes to become an established Premier League player.

Fryers went to Palace on transfer deadline day seven months ago for a reported fee of £5 million but has so far clocked up just two first team appearances for the Eagles, starting a Capital One Cup home defeat by Newcastle and coming off the bench towards the end of a Premier League win at Everton.

The left-back, who has also played as a central defender and holding midfielder in the past, admitted: "I would have liked to have played more games for Palace but they must have thought I wasn’t ready and now it’s about me coming here to get more experience and show what I can do.

"No disrespect to Neil Warnock — he bought me, he’s got his ways of managing and so has every other manager — but I think the way Alan Pardew manages a team is better for Palace.

"I still want to play for Palace in the Premiership. The best football is probably played there and it’s the best level to test yourself because you are playing against the best players.

"My main aim this season was to play regularly for Palace but I have come on loan instead to get games and gain experience that way.

"Alan Pardew didn’t say too much to me when I was leaving Palace to come here. I think we both know that it’s all about me getting some games in, developing and gaining useful experience.

"I still feel I can make it at the highest level and become a regular for Palace but it all depends on what Alan Pardew thinks.

"As a left-back I would say I’m quite a balanced player. I don’t bomb forward at every single opportunity but nor do I hold back all the time. I’m a bit of both really.

"Obviously I know Tyrone Mings is going to miss out through suspension and Jonny Parr is injured, so I’ve got to do my job and help Ipswich.

"I last played about two or three weeks ago but I’ve been training since then and I feel fine. We have two games in a short space of time over Easter but it will be good and I’m really looking forward to it.

"I spoke to Jonny about coming to Ipswich and he loves it here. He’s been a few times, hasn’t he? He just said how good it was and that helped me to decide. It’s good to have him here because he’s been before and knows the place well.”
