Lowestoft Keen to Keep Released Sowunmi - Ipswich Town News

Lowestoft Town are keen to sign Town first-year pro Omar Sowunmi on a permanent basis in the summer, the 19-year-old having extended his current loan spell to the end of the season.

Central defender Sowunmi initially joined the Vanarama Conference North side, who face Hednesford Town at Crown Meadow this afternoon, in January and on Monday scored his first goal, the late winner in the 2-1 victory at Leamington.

"We’ve got him for the rest of the season, which is great for everyone and of course we would like to keep him beyond that,” Trawlerboys joint-manager Micky Chapman told the Lowestoft Journal.

"We know Ipswich are going to release him but he’s obviously keen to stay in the pro game and we wish him all the best of luck with that.

"He has been for a few trials — I think Exeter are taking a look at him. But if he can’t then I know there will be a contract here for him at Lowestoft at the end of the season. We would be delighted to have him on board.”

Sowunmi has been a regular in Town's U21s but without breaking into the first-team squad.
