Murphy Wins Player of the Year - Ipswich Town News

Striker Daryl Murphy was named the Supporters' Player of the Year 2014/15 at the Supporters Club's Player Awards evening in the Sir Bobby Robson Suite earlier this evening, with last year’s winner Christophe Berra second and Kevin Bru third.

Murphy, who also carried off the Junior Blues and Platinum Season Ticket Holders gongs, was delighted to win the main award by a landslide.

"It’s a big honour for me, I think I was second last year and to get it this year I can’t thank everyone enough, especially the fans,” he said.

The 32-year-old, who has scored 23 goals so far this season, says he’s not sure why he’s had quite such a fruitful campaign.

"From last year I scored a few towards the end of the season and I wanted to kick on this year so maybe it was working a bit harder, having a few extra sessions with TC and that,” he added.

Murphy, who attended the event along with the rest of the squad, manager Mick McCarthy and assistant Terry Connor and other staff, says that while a total of 30 goals now seems out of reach, he’ll be looking to add to his total in the remaining matches.

"There are four games left, who knows what could happen, I can bang in a few, hopefully.”

Also amongst the winners at the awards, which were presented by representatives of the Supporters Club branches while Radio Suffolk’s Mark Murphy MCed, was Teddy Bishop, who picked up the Dale Roberts Academy Player of the Year award for the season's best young player.
