Injured Williams Returns to Palace - Ipswich Town News

Town have confirmed that Jonny Williams has returned to his parent club Crystal Palace after suffering a recurrence of his groin injury in yesterday’s U21s defeat to Bristol City. As reported yesterday, the 21-year-old limped off a minute before half-time during the 3-2 loss to the Robins.

Following yesterday's match, Williams was assessed by Blues physio Matt Byard and has subsequently returned to Selhurst Park for treatment with a view to next season.

Williams rejoined the Blues on deadline day in March for a third loan spell, having seen his second curtailed by the injury which he initially suffered in the 1-0 home victory over Watford in November.

The Wales international hadn’t played a game since picking up that injury - sustained when he was fouled by Hornets’ defender Joel Ekstrand - having struggled to regain his fitness and made only two sub appearances during his latest stint at Portman Road.

Williams, who made four starts and one sub appearance, scoring once in this season's earlier spell, adding to one goal in 11 starts and two appearances from the bench last year, was due to remain with the Blues until after the play-off semi-finals if Town are involved.
