Murphy: We Need to Aim to Win at Blackburn - Ipswich Town News

Town’s 25-goal Championship top scorer Daryl Murphy believes the Blues need to go into Saturday’s final match of the regular season at Blackburn looking to win, despite a point being enough to secure a play-off place (KO 12.15pm).

"We’ve got to go to Blackburn with the mentality of trying to win the game, it’s as simple as that,” Murphy told Ipswich Player.

"A point will be enough but we want to get the job done and set ourselves up for the play-offs.

"We’ve been up there for most of the season and now we’ve put ourselves into a good position with the win over Forest, we’ve just got to get over the line now.

"We’re all confident and looking forward to the game. Hopefully we can give ourselves a crack at getting into the Premier League by making the play-offs. It’s where we all want to be.”

Town could still finish in the top six even if they lose at Ewood Park if two of the results of the games involving Derby, Brentford and Wolves go in the Blues' favour.

Murphy, the first Town player to hit 25 league goals since Ray Crawford in the 1962/63 season, looks set to be named the Blues' Players' Player of the Year at this evening's sell-out End of Season Dinner at Milsoms, Kesgrave Hall.

Sky Sports will announce which of Saturday's Championship games they will show live tomorrow, following relegation-threatened Rotherham's home match against Reading this evening.
