PA Man in Row Row - Ipswich Town News

Town PA man and Radio Broadland presenter Rob Chandler is at the centre of controversy after repeating allegations of a bust-up between Norwich City players after the Canaries' 3-0 win against Preston on his Norfolk-based radio show.

The allegations claimed that two Norwich players were involved in an argument in the players' lounge after the game which the Canaries won 3-0.

The story had originally appeared on a website and the row has been strenuously denied by City manager Nigel Worthington who says he is unhappy with the the Town PA man: "I'm disappointed with him for making these comments without doing his homework first. Somebody's trying to start a rumour and maybe get in amongst the good spirit that we've got here and that's always likely to happen. It's naughty, but you get these people in society who want to create stories and cause a few problems.

"Someone asked me this morning if I had heard such and such and I'm delighted to say it's a load of nonsense — total fabrication — and we've got a good happy camp at Carrow Road and Colney.

"If there are stories and there's something behind it, I'd be the first to stand up and say, 'Yes we have got a problem or no we haven't'."

Chandler was recently in hot water at Portman Road after causing Manchester City to complain about comments he made at half-time during the FA Cup match between the two clubs. Chandler pointed out that a refereeing decision which led to City's first goal had been incorrect and also reminded City fans that Portman Road was where they were relegated last season.

David Sheepshanks apologised to City for this incident, but Chandler was in strife again last week when he made reference to Old Git's TWTD reserve reports over the PA at the Wimbledon reserve match. A remark which some have seen as promoting a website other than the club's official one.

On the matter of the Norwich row, Chandler's boss, Radio Broadland managing director Bob Norman, defended the DJ: "Rob is an experienced presenter and he was quick to qualify what he was saying, using the word 'allegedly' on a number of occasions."
