Chambo: We Can't Wait to Get Out There - Ipswich Town News

Skipper Luke Chambers looked ahead to Saturday’s vital last-day visit to Blackburn that will determine whether Town qualify for the play-offs and admitted: “We can’t wait to get out there.

"I’ve been asked questions by the fans about how the lads are feeling and we’re just preparing as we would for any game because at the end of the day, if we do our jobs we’re in the play-offs. There has been nothing different in training this week.

"We’ll travel up there and we’ll watch a bit of Blackburn on DVDs but we know their strengths and we know their weaknesses and if we perform the way we have done for 45 games then come two o’clock we’ll be in the play-offs.”

There is a lot riding on the outcome at Ewood Park and Town cannot be overtaken if they draw the game. But Chambers stressed they will not be heading for Lancashire with a backs-to-the-wall plan to hold out for a point.

He added: "With our gaffer that ain’t going to happen as long as he’s in charge. We’ll be going there with the strongest team available to us and we’ll be ready.

"I’m not nervous now but maybe if it’s 0-0 with 10 minutes to go I may have a few butterflies. We’re looking forward to it and there couldn’t really be a bigger reward waiting for us.

"As players we should thrive on the responsibility and enjoy it. I’ve been saying in the huddle in the past few weeks that we had to deliver.

"We had to beat Blackpool at home, we had to beat Cardiff at home, we had to go to Wolves and stop them from beating us and we had to beat Forest at home.

"These are the games that you want to be involved in. I’ve said to the boys that the fans are turning out in bigger numbers — we had 25,000 at the weekend and the atmosphere was fantastic — and I’ve told them they could be playing for another 10 years and not be involved with a team that is successful.

"You have to make the most of it and enjoy these occasions, which is what I think we’ll do.

"I think the fans have been absolutely tremendous and it seems like they’ve got their enjoyment back, together with their affinity with the club. They stop me in the street and they wait around after games.

"They are happy to see a team that they can be proud of at the minute and we just want to get the job done for them and for ourselves.

"It has been a long season and I can’t actually believe it is now May. I’m getting older very quickly. We’re just looking to finish it strongly.

"We’re a very tight group and such a good group that everyone who’s come in, whether a loan or a permanent signing midway through the season, has contributed.

"It’s credit to the gaffer and also credit to the group and the strength of character of people who have bought into what we are about very, very quickly.”
