Gerken's Minor Knock Only New Injury - Ipswich Town News

Keeper Dean Gerken has picked up a minor knock but otherwise Town manager Mick McCarthy says he has no new injuries going into Saturday’s Championship play-off semi-final first leg against Norwich City at Portman Road.

"We’re OK, Gerks has a got a bit of a knock but I think he’ll be OK,” McCarthy said.

"We’ve still got Didz [David McGoldrick] coming back and Luke Hyam but everybody else is fit. We’re all right.”

The Town boss says McGoldrick is back in training after his niggly thigh injury but played down the chances of his involvement in the derbies.

"He’s just coming back I’m not going to get carried away with that, not too soon,” he said.

However, later he added: "Didz might be resurrected for one of the games, he’s back training.”

Midfielder Hyam seems less likely to be involved having been out for a while with a knee problem.

Loanee Luke Varney is available again having been unavailable against his parent club Blackburn last week.

Meanwhile, Town, Blackburn, Charlton, Reading and Fulham will reportedly watch 23-year-old right-back David Bruno when he plays for Porto’s B team against Manchester City’s U21s in the final of the Premier League International Cup at City’s academy this evening.

According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, Bruno, who is yet to break into the Porto first team, was previously watched by Championship clubs when facing Chelsea earlier in the season and has been sounded out about a move to England.

Bruno has previously spent time on loan at Trofense and has been capped at U18 and U19 levels by Portugal.
