Burley for Celtic Job? - Ipswich Town News

George Burley is emerging as a target for the now vacant manager's job at Cletic. The Scottish giants, umbled so dramatically by Inverness Caledonian on Tuesday night, are holding a press conference this afternoon to announce John Barnes's departure. It is also reported that Alan Brazil has said that Burley is the man for the job. With George Burley refuting every suggestion af a movce by any of his playes it will be interesting to see how long it takes the Town chief to distance himself from a move.

Next season sees a new away kit for Town and once again it will be the supporters who are to choose from a list of three. These will be modelled by captain Matt Holland and they can be seen at any of the club shops. Suppoerters can make their choice from 12th February 'til 23rd February. Commercial Director Paul Clouting said: "Very few football clubs take the opportunity to involve their fans in the selection process but after the huge response previously it was an easy decision to repeat the exercise. It was also a great commercial success as the current home strip is the most successful the Club has ever produced having sold over 13,500 shirts since the launch. The new away kit will allow the Club to use the latest sport fashion colours which proved to be so popular with the previous away kit."

Town manager George Burley has said that despite injuries to four centre-halves he willl not be bringing anyone in on loan. Manu Thetis, Mark Venus, Adam Tanner and Titus Bramble are all out at the moment, although Thetis is on his way back. The manager said that there are enough other players at the club who can play at centre-half for Town to be able to cope. Matt Holland has played there before for Town and Fabian Wilnis played in the centre of the defence in the reserve match last week. Richard Naylor and Gary Croft have also played there earlier in their careers.

Former Town left-back (and about the last decent corner taker Town had) Neil Thompson has left his job with York by mutual consent. The former nappy-salesman (© All ITFC programme features on NT) hasn't had a particularly happy time at York with him unable to prevent their relegation last season and with them well down in the Third Division this.

Town hope to name an unchanged side on Saturday with the only worry Gary Croft's groin, wlthough he is expected to be fit.
