The sons of ex-Town players Richard Wright and Jason Dozzell will be following in their fathers’ footsteps when they join 10 other new scholars to kick off their own Portman Road careers in July.
Like his famous father, 16-year-old Harry Wright is a goalkeeper, while Andre Dozzell is also a central midfielder, like dad Jason, who still retains a place in the record books as the English top flight’s youngest-ever goalscorer courtesy of his goal against Coventry in February 1984 when he was precisely 16 years and 57 days old and still attending the town’s Chantry High School.
Jason, who later joined Tottenham and had a loan spell at Portman Road before spells at Northampton and Colchester, is a part-time coach at the Town academy, has gone on record with the view that Andre can become an even better player and the youngster has already represented his country at U16 level.
Andre, who turned 16 earlier this month, put pen to paper on a one-year professional contract to follow his two-year scholarship.
Harry, whose dad left Ipswich to join Arsenal and then went on to play for Everton and West Ham before returning to Ipswich, turned down offers from a host of clubs, including Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland, in favour of joining Town more than 20 years after his father did the same.
Jason made 340 league appearances for the club, scoring a total of 53 goals, while Richard’s Town league career spanned 362 first team appearances.
The dozen new scholars also features another well-known name, that of midfielder Daniel Muamba, the younger brother of former Bolton man Fabrice Muamba.
Also amongst the other nine set to begin two-year scholarships is Nicholas Hayes, another keeper who recently attended to an England goalkeepers camp at St George's Park and has been invited back to the next similar event.
Striker Callum Fullwood joined the Town youth set-up from Cambridge City, while central defender or right-back Kieron Cathline was previously with Watford and Stevenage.
Another centre-half, Luke Woolfenden, has been a regular in the U18s this season, while Kolade Salaudeen, also a centre-half, was previously with Thamesmead Town and impressed during a trial at Playford Road.
Flynn Downes and Scotland-born Ross Meldrum are midfielders, striker Ben Morris has already found the net at U18 level, while Northern Irish U17 international winger or frontman Conor McKendry was previously with Glenavon.
