Tabb a Course Celeb - Ipswich Town News

Blues midfielder Jay Tabb was in golfing action at the BMW PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am at Wentworth this afternoon.

The 31-year-old, who Town stay was extended by a year earlier in the week, played alongside professional Marc Warren, Arsenal legend Ian Wright and his former Reading team-mate Ady Williams.

It’s the fourth time Tabb (pictured above playing last year) has played in the tournament and, speaking in February last year, he explained how he got involved: "It just so happens that the guy who organises it is a Reading fan and he got me in.

"I sent an email in with an enquiry and I was lucky it landed on his desk. You can’t buy your way in.”

He added: "It’s something I will remember forever. It was a bit nerve-racking and I was a lot more nervous than when I play football. I love my golf. There are 20-handicappers as well because it’s a bit of a fun event.

"I was shaking like a leaf before I teed off and I don’t know how I took the club back. I went on to the range at Wentworth beforehand and on one side of me I had Ian Poulter and on the other Sergio Garcia. It was terrifying, it really was.”

A host of stars from the worlds of sport and entertainment also took part in the annual precursor to the BMW PGA Championship.

Meanwhile, work has begun on the annual renovation and reseeding of the Portman Road pitch.

Elsewhere, ex-Town loanee Danny Simpson could be facing jail having been found guilty of throttling the mother of his child during a drunken argument.

Simpson, who is currently with Leicester City, was with the Blues late in the 2007/08 season, making seven starts and one sub appearance.
