Academy scholar Monty Patterson came on as a half-time sub as New Zealand’s U20s were beaten 4-0 by the USA in their second FIFA U20 World Cup group game at the QBE Stadium in Auckland this morning.

The hosts were already 2-0 down before Patterson was introduced from the bench.

On Saturday, 18-year-old midfielder or striker came on as a 73rd minute sub as New Zealand opened their tournament with a 0-0 draw with Ukraine. They complete their group matches with a game against Myanmar in Wellington on Friday.

Meanwhile, Town trio Adam McDonnell, Cemal Ramadan and Shane McLoughlin are currently away with the Irish U18s who play the first of two friendlies away in Luxembourg later today, with the second on Thursday.
