Portman Road on Twilight Race Routes - Ipswich Town News

Portman Road features prominently on the routes of the Ipswich Building Society Twilight 10k and 5k Road Races, which will be run for the first time on Friday 14th August.

Ipswich JAFFA Running Club, in association with Ipswich Borough Council, Ipswich Building Society and Suffolk New College, has created the two races, a 5k race (for men who can run that distance within 20 minutes and women within 22 minutes) with cash prizes for top athletes, and a 10k mass participation run with the aim of beating the sunset.

The two races will launch the weekend activities associated with the Ipswich Maritime Festival.

Race director Carl Ashton told TWTD: "From an ITFC perspective this is a unique opportunity to run through the stadium, passing under the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand and then completing a lap around the outside of the stadium, passing both the Sir Alf and Sir Bobby statues, as well as a number of Ipswich landmarks en route, such as the Willis Building, the Cornhill, Ancient House and Giles statue before heading back to Suffolk New College and doing it all again on lap two!”

You can find full details of both races, how to enter and training plans on JAFFA’s website, while there will be more information on Twitter via @Ipswich10k. A route map can be found here.
