From Ding-Dong to Ping-Pong - Ipswich Town News

Town new boy Ryan Fraser has gone from a ding-dong to ping-pong as former rival Luke Chambers has become his new best pal.

Fraser, 21, has arrived at Portman Road on a season-long loan deal from Bournemouth and was quick to recall his clash with skipper Chambers when the sides drew 1-1 on Good Friday.

The winger, who is right-footed but operates on the left flank, laughed: "I was up against Chambo and he gave me some stick. In the games where we have played against each other we have always started arguing.

"When he saw me the other say — I was here for my medical — he gave me some more stick. But it was good to see him again and he’s a good guy.

"It was just a bit of banter — we’re good mates in the dressing room, play a bit of ping-pong together and I think we’re rooming together when we go on the pre-season trip to Ireland, so that should be interesting.”

Aberdeen-born Fraser, who launched his career with the Dons before switching to Bournemouth in a £400,000 deal in January 2013, has been told he still has a long-term future with the Premier League new boys.

He confirmed: "I am going to sign a new deal at Bournemouth and I want to show everyone here what I can do.

"I want to play as many games as I can and get the fans off their seats by doing well and scoring a few goals.

"I don’t think [Bournemouth manager] Eddie Howe could promise me games in the Premier League. Well, he can’t promise anyone games because you have to fight for it, like at any other club.

"He’s like me in that he wants me to improve. You can never be good enough. He just said that I needed to go and play games. He told me I would learn under Mick [McCarthy] and I will do that.

"In the back of my mind I know my future’s set but at the same time I need to go out and smash it here — and I think I will.”
