Wordsworth Signs for Southend - Ipswich Town News
Released midfielder Anthony Wordsworth has joined League One Southend United on a two-year deal. The 26-year-old officially left the Blues at the end of the season but spent most of the last campaign on loan at Rotherham and then Crawley.
Wordsworth told the official Shrimpers website: "I met [manager] Phil [Brown] about three weeks back and I decided straight away that I wanted to play for him. I spoke to some of the boys I already know here and they spoke really highly of the Club.
"I know some of the other lads as well and I'm looking forward to starting here. It always helps knowing players here and I've watched a few Southend games because of those players.
"I have family that live in Southend and they come to all the games. I'll have to set some targets in pre-season and try and achieve those goals.”
Wordsworth joined the Blues for a fee of £100,000 in January 2013 and made 10 starts and 10 sub appearances, scoring two goals.
