Academy scholar Monty Patterson netted his third goal in three games as New Zealand’s U23s beat Vanuatu 2-0 in the semi-finals of the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea this morning.
The Blues midfielder or striker netted the opening goal two minutes after the break having previously scored in the group games against the Solomon Islands and the hosts before being rested for the match against New Caledonia.

New Zealand’s U23s now face Fiji in Sunday’s final with Oceania’s place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games the prize.
Blues centre-half Tommy Smith previously represented New Zealand at the 2012 London Olympics.
