Town boss Mick McCarthy wouldn’t directly comment on reports that he has or is planning to make an offer for Birmingham striker Clayton Donaldson but pondered aloud where he would play him given the strikers he already has at his disposal.
"You wouldn’t expect me to comment on that whether I have or I haven’t,” McCarthy said after Town’s win at Shelbourne.
"But if you consider that for one moment when I’ve got Daryl Murphy, David McGoldrick, Freddie Sears and Brett Pitman, I just wonder where the hell I’d go and play him.”
Quizzed on whether he will look to add another central midfielder as cover for Luke Hyam while he is out injured, he added: "I’ve got four good ‘uns out there, haven’t I, by the looks of it. Probably more than four good ‘uns. We’ll see.”
Does he expect to have any new signings in his squad before the Blues take on Fortuna Dusseldorf next Friday? "Doubtful.”
McCarthy confirmed that winger Cameron Stewart, who played for the U21s at Leiston this afternoon, can leave: "He’s available."
