Town Confirm Coke Signing - Ipswich Town News

Town have confirmed the signing of former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Giles Coke on a two-year deal with an option for a further season. Coke, 29, has been on trial with the Blues for the last week and played in the friendlies against Peterborough, Colchester and FC Utrecht.

Speaking after Saturday’s game manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that Coke had been offered terms, adding: "I knew Cokey anyway but he’s fitted in well and he’s another good person, a good bloke.

"He’s fitted into the dressing room and the lads like him. I’ve been really pleased with him.”

Coke told Ipswich Player HD that he's aware he has a fight on his hands to get into the side at Town: "I know it’s going to be tough to get in the team because there are so many really good players here but I’m ready for the challenge.

"The team went so close last season and there is a really good feel about the dressing-room.

"You can tell the togetherness that exists between the players. That counts for so much and it can make all the difference.

"The Championship is such a tight league and that team spirit can make that extra one or two per cent. There is a great buzz about the place. You can pick that out.

"Everyone here wants the club to be successful and I believe we can do something this year.”

The Westminster-born midfielder, who will wear the Town number 16 shirt, played youth football with QPR before moving on to Kingstonian, Mansfield, Northampton and Motherwell before joining the Owls in 2010.

While with Wednesday Coke spent time on loan at Bury, Swindon and towards the end of last season Bolton. He was released in the summer and was on trial with Blackburn prior to joining up with the Blues.

Meanwhile, Town's U21s lost 2-0 in a friendly at Norwich this afternoon, Josh Murphy netting both goals.
