Goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski has admitted he was partly to blame for the opening-day draw at Brentford when Town led 2-0 going into stoppage time.
The Pole had to pick the ball out of his net twice before the final whistle, leaving Mick McCarthy and his players bitterly disappointed at having to settle for just the one point.
Bialkowski said: "We conceded two late goals at Brentford and I probably should have done better with the second one.
"Going into the Sheffield Wednesday game on Saturday we knew we had to stay focused for the entire 90 minutes plus stoppage time to make sure there was no repeat of the scoreline against Brentford.
"I know I should have done better against Brentford and it is all about being confident and concentrating for the entire game.
"We managed to do it and I was pleased with the late save I made but mainly with the fact that we won and gained another three points.
"We certainly didn’t want to have a repeat of what happened in the Brentford game.
"Wednesday were putting a lot of balls into the box and we managed to deal with them. I’m glad we were able to hold on and take all three points.
"Being a goalkeeper is a tough position to play in, mainly because a mistake by a goalkeeper usually ends up with a goal to the other side.
"We are doing our jobs as best as we can at the moment. As a keeper it’s not always about making big saves. It’s important that you do the other things well, like coming for crosses and kicking the ball into good areas.
"Everyone was happy with the result and I think all the players deserve praise. It was a good team effort.
"Every Sunday or Monday we talk about the game and analyse it on the DVD — what we did well, what we could have done better etc.
"For the keepers Malcolm [Webster] is always there for us. If you want to talk to him about your performance he is happy to do it and pass on advice.”
Bialkowski has echoed the views of manager McCarthy that Town’s current complement of strikers is among the best, if not the best, in the Championship — and underlined the bonus for him and his fellow keepers.
He added: "It’s amazing and great for the team, but it is also great for the goalkeepers at the club because we are the ones trying to save their shots in training all the time.
"We like to be tested and it helps us to become better goalkeepers when we are facing the best in training.
"Sometimes it is hard but you need that when you are always looking to improve and be the best you can be. How you train is very important and will always have an effect on how you perform on match days.
"I really think we have the best selection of strikers in this division. Last season we were obviously good in that department, with Murph scoring a lot of goals and also Freddie after he arrived in January, but this season we have further strengthened.
"The arrival of Brett Pitman is a big factor and David McGoldrick has hopefully put his injury problems behind him. We know how good he can be. We have also added pace with the young players — Ryan [Fraser] and Ainsley [Maitland-Niles] on the wings.”
