Town boss Mick McCarthy hopes winger Cameron Stewart can rediscover his mojo during his half-season loan with League One Doncaster Rovers.
The 24-year-old joined the South Yorkshiremen last week and made his debut as a 68th minute sub as they defeated Fleetwood 2-0 at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday.
Last night he netted the final penalty in a 5-3 shoot-out victory at home to Burton Albion in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy following a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes.
Stewart, who ended last season on loan at Barnsley, has made only two sub appearances for the Blues, both in the FA Cup, since signing a three-year deal in the summer of 2014 after his release by Hull City.
Why does McCarthy think the move hasn’t worked out? "Good question, like everybody else they get plenty of work put into them, plenty of coaching, plenty of advice, assistance, nurturing. They get it all.
"Sometimes it just doesn’t happen to them, for whatever reason, and it hasn’t with Cameron.
"Let’s hope he goes to Doncaster and gets his mojo back and does what he did when we saw him playing for us against Charlton and Leeds, because he was a real handful. Good luck to him, I hope he does.”
The Town boss dismisses the suggestion that the former Manchester United trainee hasn’t shown the right attitude: "No, I’m not questioning that.
"He came in and he broke his jaw in pre-season [2014/15], got knocked back, then didn’t play and I know what can happen.
"If you get an injury early on and then you don’t get in the team and you’ve come in and you’re expecting to be playing, it can leave you that bit deflated. And he’s just never got it back.
"Mind you, he was on loan when we saw him. Maybe he plays well when he’s on loan.”
Meanwhile, Town’s final transfer window signing Tommy Oar has been given the number 15 shirt.
Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Richard Stearman, 28, joined Fulham from Wolves on deadline day for a fee understood to be worth up to £2 million with add-ons, signing a three-year deal with an option for a fourth season.
One-time Town skipper David Norris, 34, has left Yeovil after making just one appearance for the Glovers, as a sub in Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Oxford United, having signed non-contract terms less than a fortnight ago.
