Flight Shocker for Town! - Ipswich Town News
Yesterday's strong winds gave Town's players and staff more than just a hard time on the pitch. The flight which took the team to Leeds faced very strong winds as it landed at Leeds/Bradford Airport.
Due to the winds the chartered 30-seater aircraft had to land by approaching from the side of the runway, with one unnamed player commenting that it was "one of the most horrific experiences of my life."
George Burley said that there was palpable relief as the plane touched down: "There was a spontaneous round of applause when we landed. It was a great relief to get down.
"It was very bumpy to say the least and the plane was all over the shop being buffeted by strong winds. After we landed it was decided to call for our coach and make the return journey by road."
The Blues' coach was called from Cambridge Airport and the players made their way home by road arriving back in Ipswich in the early hours.
George Burley confirmed that the players would still be flying to the games at Blackburn and Newcastle. Yesterday's winds were exceptional with two flights diverted away from Leeds/Bradford.
