Boss Mick McCarthy would like some of his younger fringe players to go out on loan, but says no one is going anywhere while the Blues are still in the Capital One Cup. Town travel to Manchester United next Wednesday for their third round tie.
McCarthy says his squad has reached a size where not everyone can be involved in senior training on a regular basis.
"We’ve now got 24, 25 players, they can’t all train every day with the first team, so the likes of Josh Emmanuel, Myles Kenlock, Josh Yorwerth and James Alabi even, who came and scored against Doncaster, won’t play every week,” he said.
"We may well still be in the Capital One Cup after the Manchester United tie and I’ll need as big a squad as possible to deal with that.
"So nobody will be going out anywhere until we’ve played that and have seen what the result is. But after that then, yes, possibly [some could go out on loan].
"I’ve had people enquiring about some of them and the answers have all been the same: Let me get that game out of the way, let’s see what happens, if we’re still in that cup competition I need everybody here.
"If not, then it might be right for some of them to go out on loan and get some games.”
McCarthy has reiterated that he has no intention of adding any loanees to his squad, having confirmed that Kevin Bru and Teddy Bishop came through Tuesday’s U21 game at Birmingham following their hamstring injuries, along with recent signing Tommy Oar, who was playing his first game in a Town shirt.
"No chance,” the Blues boss added. "We’ve got 24 players, I’ve got the best squad, the strongest squad, the most players I’ve ever had since I’ve been here.”
