Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’s in no hurry to get youngsters Josh Emmanuel and Josh Yorwerth out on loan, although he would like the duo to go out on spells in order to gain experience.
Right-back Emmanuel, 18, and 20-year-old centre-half Yorwerth are unlikely to see much first-team action in the immediate future with the Blues now out of the Capital One Cup.
"I spoke to Josh Emmanuel and Josh Yorwerth and said ‘Don’t be having your agents in my ear hole asking if they can go on loan immediately that we’re out of the Capital One Cup’," McCarthy said.
"Let it settle down and see where we are. There’s an international break after the Blackburn game and then I’ll decide, depending on the club, where it is and who it is and whether it’s going to benefit them, and benefit them so it benefits me and the club long-term.”
He says he has no plans to send out recent signings Piotr Malarczyk and Tommy Oar: "I’ve no intention of loaning them out. I think Piotr Malarczyk has been the captain of his team [Korona Kielce].
"I think he’s found it an experience [since he came here]. I was talking to him today and how they played in Poland and they sat 22 or 25 yards outside the box. My team doesn’t, we squeeze up and we follow people in and we have to track runners.
"So that’s unusual for him, it’s alien, it’s strange, but I like him and I don’t think there’s any doubt that he’s going to be a good player for us. He was the captain of their team, he’s 24 and he’s played a lot of games.
"Josh Yorwerth was in the U21s at Cardiff last year, he couldn’t have seen himself playing in anybody’s first team, let alone against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
"Likewise with Josh Emmanuel, he’s had a face like a slapped backside since I left him out of the team and I kept saying to him, ‘Look, you'll get your games’ and, of course, there’s a big grin on his face having played at Old Trafford.
"But he might not get a game now because I’ve got Chambo, I’ve got Jonny Parr, who is fit, so we may get him some football on a loan deal, but we’ll wait and see.”
McCarthy was pleased with Australian international Oar’s debut at Old Trafford and also to have a winger in his squad who is a permanent signing rather than a loanee like Ainsley Maitland-Niles or Ryan Fraser.
"I was aware of that when I spoke to Marcus and it would be nice to take one who is our player,” he added. "They’re our players for the season but going onwards who knows what will happen.
"It seems a long time away but I’ll be sat here, hopefully, next season and we’re a Premier League team. We might not be able to do anything with Ainsley or Ryan Fraser, but Tommy Oar I was pleased with him and he’s got a lot to offer.
"I thought his dead ball deliveries were terrific, and we’ve not had a specialist, if you like, that puts it on blob every single time.
"Ryan has, I would say, and I would also say that Ainsley has, and we scored quite a few goals off Ando’s freekicks and corners last season.
"But it’s nice if you’ve got somebody that you know puts the ball down and you know where it’s going to go.”
McCarthy admits it won’t be easy to keep his entire squad happy with no cup games in which to play his fringe players until the FA Cup third round in January but he says their performances in the Capital One Cup have shown he can trust them if they’re required for Championship action.
"Impossible to keep them happy, except for how the place is, the atmosphere of the place, the team spirit,” he admitted. "The likes of Tabby, for example. He’s out of the team and I spoke to him and he said that it’s fine, 'Don’t even think about loaning me out, I’m not going anywhere. I love it here, I’ve no intention of going anywhere'.
"I said ‘Brilliant, I’m glad you’re not looking to get out the door’. Great support because for somebody who hasn’t played, he was different class the other night [at Old Trafford].
"You can’t keep them happy, ‘I want to play’, that’s the answer you get off them. I say ‘Well, that’s OK’.
"But the difference is if we have got three games in a week I know I can actually call upon them and play them and be confident in the knowledge that they’re going to be comfortable playing in the team.”
