Yorwerth's Crawley Loan Confirmed - Ipswich Town News

Town have confirmed that centre-half Josh Yorwerth has joined League Two Crawley Town on loan until October 25th.

The 20-year-old is set to make his Red Devils debut in this evening's game at Newport County, whose manager and assistant manager are legendary Town central defenders Terry Butcher and Russell Osman.

Crawley chief executive Michael Dunford outlined how the switch came about.

"He comes recommended by Mick McCarthy to [Crawley manager] Mark [Yates] and he will be in the squad tonight," he told the Crawley News.

"We have Jon Ashton injured and Joe McNerney injured, so we will take Josh for 28 days and what happens after then remains to be seen.

"We have strengthened the squad to cover the unfortunately injuries to two key players."

Yates added: "Josh is highly regarded by Ipswich and we’re delighted Mick McCarthy has allowed us to have him for a month.

"We have a few defenders out with injury at the moment but Josh is going to be an excellent addition to the squad.”

Town boss McCarthy had said he was keen to get Wales U21 international Yorwerth out on loan to get games, although the move has taken place more quickly than the Blues boss had anticipated.

Yorwerth made a goalscoring Town debut in the Capital One Cup first round tie against Stevenage and featured in the subsequent games against Doncaster and Manchester United in the same competition.

With the Blues now out Yorwerth, like Josh Emmanuel, is unlikely to play much if any first-team football at Town in the months prior to the FA Cup third round.

The Bridgend-born defender, who spent time on loan in non-league with Hereford last season, joined the Blues in the summer after a trial having been released by Cardiff City in May.
