Dozzell on Target for England U17s - Ipswich Town News
Academy first-year scholar Andre Dozzell scored the opening goal as England’s U17s beat Armenia 5-0 in their second game at their European Championship first round qualifying group in Portugal this afternoon.
Midfielder Dozzell, 16, netted a freekick in the 18th minute to put the U17s, who beat San Marino 8-0 in their opening match, on the way to victory.
Blues keeper Nick Hayes, also 16 and a first-year scholar, has been an unused sub in both matches. Dozzell has now won five U17 caps, with today's goal his second at this level, and Hayes two.
The England youngsters complete their group matches with a fixture against the hosts on Sunday.
The top two teams in the group progress through to the elite stage of qualifying in March and barring miracle results England are already through. The 16-team European Championship finals are being staged in Azerbaijan in May.
