McCarthy: No New Injuries in Addition to Fraser - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Mick McCarthy has no new injury absentees in addition to winger Ryan Fraser, who is out for at least two months with a knee ligament injury, ahead of Saturday’s home game against Huddersfield.

"Tommy Oar had a bang but he trained on Thursday and Friday and did well and others have all come back OK,” McCarthy said of the players who have been away on international duty.

"Larsen Touré had a groin problem from the Blackburn game, he was sore and only trained on the Thursday. But everybody else came back and they’re all fine.”

In Fraser’s absence Oar seems set to get his chance wide on the left and McCarthy says the Australian has shown that he is ready for for regular involvement.

"He has, he’s been great in training, he’s done everything I would have expected of him in training and he’s ready to play,” the Town boss added.

Regarding Fraser, McCarthy says the 21-year-old was initially expected to be out for even longer having suffered the injury in training with the Scotland U21s.

"It was bad news and then good news because we thought that it was going to be six to nine months, had he damaged his cruciate ligament, but it’s turned out it’s his medial and it looks like being six weeks for the recovery from that,” he continued.

"So we’re probably looking at eight to 10 weeks, which is good news considering what it might have been, and even better news for him, of course.”

Saturday’s game against the Terriers is followed by trips to Hull and Nottingham Forest and the Blues boss says those games will come too quickly for Teddy Bishop, who has been missing since the start of the season with hamstring and shin splints problems.

"Teddy won’t be involved in those games," McCarthy added. "He’s had a great couple of weeks, he’s done the pre-season that we did in the summer. He’s repeated that, which is never pleasant, having two pre-seasons in a year.

"But that was the plan. I was talking to the [physio] Matt Byard and [fitness coach] Andy Liddell when we were in Manchester, saying that we can’t just keep stumbling back into it, let’s give him a real month’s programme and get him fitter, stronger and more confident, so that’s what we’ve done.

"I think next week he’ll train with the U18s/U21s with a view to getting back in with us when he’s having no trouble with his shins or his hamstring. He’s been flying this morning on the training ground. Fingers crossed when he does come back he’ll be ready to go.”

Giles Coke is over his groin problem while Luke Hyam is expected back in training at the start of November having undergone knee surgery in the summer.
