Jonny Parr is adamant that Town can recover from their dip in form and kick-start their season with a morale-boosting win at Nottingham Forest this weekend.
Mick McCarthy and his players head for the City Ground having won just once in their last eight league games, a miserable run that has seen them pocket only six points from the 24 up for grabs, but the Norwegian defender or midfielder firmly believes there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Oslo-born Parr, who was 27 on Wednesday, said: "It doesn’t matter if things are going well or badly, the important thing is to focus on the next game and that’s what we are doing, and we believe we can get all three points at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
"Most of us have played for a long time in the Championship and we know how quickly the games come round. It’s a long season and we are going to have some good spells and some bad spells, which we have all experienced at various times in our careers.
"It doesn’t hurt to have a lot of experience at this level. We know what it’s about but there are going to be times when you don’t get the results you want.
"It’s such a tight, competitive league that it doesn’t take a lot to turn things round — for example a 1-0 win instead of a 1-0 defeat.
"All we can do is to keep working hard on the training ground every day and try to get that extra one or two per cent that could get things going our way. We have to get rid of the disappointment of losing at Hull on Tuesday and get ready for the next one.
"It’s never fun to go home on the coach after a defeat. The first half wasn’t that bad but conceding two goals changed the game and meant we had to try something different in the second half to try to get back in it, which is tough at a place like Hull.
"They have a good team, to be honest, so it wasn’t the result we wanted and it was disappointing for all the team and the fans who travelled as well. But the games are coming round very quickly and we have a new one on Saturday.”
Asked about the current mood, Parr added: "Every team is affected when things are not going their way and in the past six weeks or so we haven’t got the results we wanted after our great start to the season. But over a long season you are going to get that.
"At the moment we are just struggling to get games to go our way — tight games are going the wrong way but small margins will change that. We are all working hard every day with the manager and TC to change those margins in our favour.
"Saturday is a new chance against a team that also needs to win a game so it is going to be another tight, tough game and hopefully it will be us who come out on top.”
