Kevin Bru has a special reason for wanting to play his part in a Town win over Cardiff at Portman Road tomorrow.
Not only is he anxious to reverse recent form, he will be performing in front of several family members making the trip from Paris to see him in action in England for the very first time.
Bru, 26, said: "They have seen me play on television but they are coming to Ipswich for the first time this weekend. I hope we can get a win and it would be nice if I scored a goal.
"An assist would be good but the most important thing is that we win against Cardiff.”
The midfielder is confident one win will not only put paid to Town’s recent dip in form but also propel them towards the Championship promotion zone.
He is fully fit after missing a chunk of the season, which started so well with him on target in the 2-2 draw at Brentford on the opening day, with a hamstring injury.
He was back in league action at Hull last week and kept his place for the trip to Nottingham Forest last weekend when ex-Town midfielder Liam Trotter marked his Forest debut on loan from Bolton with a heartbreaking equaliser deep into stoppage time.
Bru said: "I think we played a good game at Forest but they scored in the 95th minute so there was no time left for us to find the winner. It was disappointing but we have another game on Saturday against Cardiff and we need to win.
"It is good to be back after my injury and I am trying to play well for both the team and the gaffer. Also for the fans — I love it when they chant my name. If they like what I do on the pitch, that’s the most important thing. I will continue to work hard and do my best for them too.”
With just one win from their last nine league games — and none in their last seven in all competitions — Town are desperate for the win required to kick-start a season that opened so promisingly with 10 points banked from their opening four games.
Bru added: "We still have a lot of games to play and when we get the win we need we can go in the right direction again. We have the ability in the team, enough good players, to turn the corner.
"Despite our recent form I still say the squad is stronger than last year but we have to prove it on the pitch with our results.
"It is good to have good players but we must do it as a team, hopefully starting this weekend against Cardiff. We need to get a win and then we will be okay. Last year I only scored one goal and I wanted to score more in the new season.
"When I scored at Brentford it was a great feeling and I was hoping to get more goals. But then I had to miss a lot of games with my injury, which was frustrating.
"But I’m fit again and playing so hopefully I will have plenty more games to score. I will certainly be trying to score and also provide assists for the other players.”
