Sheepshanks Positive - Ipswich Town News

David Sheepshanks says he is still confident that Town can pull themselves out of the relegation zone with over a quarter of the season still to go.

Sheepshanks says he can understand why supporters have become frustrated with recent results: "I can understand and empathise with the sense of frustration that surrounded our home games against Liverpool and Southampton.

"That disappointment cannot be allowed to turn into gloom and despondency. There is none of that around Portman Road.

"My approach, and the approach of the whole club, is entirely positive. We have worked over the last seven years to develop the club into what it is today.

"Metaphorically speaking I look on our cup as being half full rather than half empty. Whatever the setbacks of the last few weeks we realise that mountain territory comes with bumps and bruises. There is no doubt we have suffered a few of those bumps this season.

"If you stand back and view the last seven years it has generally been a passage of improvement and development. We are determined that this should continue."

Sheepshanks says he is fully behind George Burley, his staff and the players: "I am absolutely confident that George, our coaches and our players will be able to win sufficient games and collect the points needed to consolidate our Premiership status. The spirit and determination in the club is immense."

He also had words for the fans, citing their role in the run-in: "All our supporters have a vital role to play in these final challenging weeks ahead. With a positive approach I am certain we can give everyone plenty to cheer between now and the end of the season.

"Nobody should doubt the strength of character and resolve at Portman Road. We proved it in our run of winning seven games out of eight from an impossibly difficult position four points adrift at the foot of the table. We will prove it again between now and May 11th."
