On-Loan Stewart on Target - Ipswich Town News

On-loan Blues winger Cameron Stewart scored an injury time 25-yard freekick - the first of two goals his side netted in additional time - to help Doncaster Rovers to a dramatic 3-2 home victory over Crewe Alexandra in League One on Saturday afternoon.

Following the game manager Darren Ferguson praised the 24-year-old’s performances when coming on as a sub in recent weeks and admitted he has a tough decision to make when his half-season loan ends on January 2nd.

"The last three games that he has come off the bench, he has done well," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"He came on and scored against Chesterfield, he came on and had an influence on the game at Cambridge and he really got us back in the game then.

"He's a good impact player, Cameron. I know he wants to start more football matches and we have had a discussion, so I’ve a tough decision to make when it comes to the end of the month, what to do with him.”

He added: "It will depend on other things as well but I like the lad, he is really good professional and he trains really well, he always has a smile on his face and he never gives me a moment’s bother.

"He is also quite flexible, he can play up front, he can play as a wing-back as he did today. He was good when he came on against tired legs. He is good when he’s on fresh.”

Stewart, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2017, has made eight starts and eight sub appearances for Rovers, scoring three goals, since joining them in August. His only two appearances for Town were as a sub the FA Cup games against Southampton last season.

Elsewhere, Josh Yorwerth played the full 90 minutes and Josh Emmanuel was an unused sub as Crawley Town beat Dagenham and Redbridge 3-2 at the Broadfield Stadium in League Two.

Matt Clarke came on as an 85th minute sub as the Blues’ FA Cup opponents Portsmouth beat Hartlepool 4-0 at Fratton Park, also in League Two, with ex-Town academy striker Caolan Lavery netting the first goal.

Keeper Michael Crowe was an unused sub as Stevenage won 2-1 at AFC Wimbledon, again in League Two.

Striker James Alabi made his first start and scored his first goal for Grimsby as they drew 1-1 with Solihull Moors at Blundell Park in the FA Trophy.

Irish U18 international frontman Cemal Ramadan netted Bury Town’s goal as they lost 2-1 to Dulwich Hamlet in the FA Trophy at Ram Meadow.
