Town Exit Youth Cup to Liverpool - Ipswich Town News
Town’s U18s exited the FA Youth Cup at the third round stage after losing 2-1 to Liverpool in a closely fought game at St Helens’ Langtree Park this evening, Sam Ford (pictured) netting the Blues’ goal.
Adam Phillips put the home side in front in the third minute but Ford hit back almost immediately, netting a rebound from Ben Morris’s saved shot.
After Andre Dozzell, playing his first game after an ankle injury, had hit the bar, Toni Gomes hit what ultimately would prove to be the winner for the Reds on 26. The goals can be watched here.
The defeat was no disgrace for the young Blues with Category One Liverpool extending their unbeaten run to 14 matches and with Town having regulars such as Kundai Benyu and George Fowler missing through injury and with the likes of Dozzell, Chris Smith and James Blanchfield on the way back after long spells on the sidelines.
U18s: Hayes, Woolfenden, Nydam (Jones), Downes, Cole, C Smith, Maynard (Brown), Dozzell (Blanchfield), Ford, Morris, McKendry. Unused: Ware, Daly.
