Ross Thanks TWTD Readers After Completing Charity Walk - Ipswich Town News

Town fan and local politician Alasdair Ross has thanked TWTD readers for their support and donations having completed his Walking Home for Christmas charity walk following Tuesday’s night’s game at Fulham.

After watching the Blues’ 2-1 win at Craven Cottage, Ross, 53, got the train as far as Chelmsford, then walked 64 miles home to Ipswich on his own across country.

Walking Home for Christmas is a fundraising initiative from the Walking With The Wounded charity, which supports a project that helps homeless veterans back into employment.

"I would like to thank all TWTD readers for their support and generous donations,” said Ross, who was in the army for 25 years, first in the Royal Green Jackets and then with the Rifles in Afghanistan.

"I started at Chelmsford 15 minutes before midnight and was home at 6.30 last night. I drank my Coke halfway round and saved my Toffee Crisp for the finish!

"I’m shattered now but worth it for a cause close to my heart. I have raised just short of £2,000 but it’s not too late to donate.

"If I do it again next season, I hope it is somewhere nearer, I don’t fancy walking back from Liverpool or Man City!”
