Winger Tommy Oar is confident that Town will be a different prospect in their third round FA Cup third round replay at Portsmouth a week tomorrow, Saturday's game at Portman Road having ended 2-2.
Australian international Oar - one of seven players drafted into the starting XI - netted the under-par Blues' first goal in the 53rd minute but League Two Pompey hit back just two minutes later through Kyle Bennett, then went ahead on 86 via sub Conor Chaplin prior to Ryan Fraser’s fortuitous 88th minute equaliser.
"It wasn’t our best performance but Portsmouth played very well,” the 24-year-old said. "It was a sucker punch them scoring straight after we scored.
"We still had a lot of core players playing, like Cole Skuse and Luke Chambers, so it wasn’t a completely foreign team.
"We just lacked intensity in the first half, maybe that’s because we had a lot of young players and there was a bit of naivety.
"It will be different in the replay and we will have to be on our game to get the result. Replays are part of the cup and it gives players like myself an opportunity.”
Oar joined the Blues after leaving Dutch side FC Utrecht in the summer but has had limited opportunities with his only previous full game the Capital One Cup defeat at Manchester United in September.
His first Championship start against Huddersfield saw him suffer a concussion early on and make way at half-time, while he subsequently suffered a knee injury.
"I haven’t played 90 minutes recently so it’s important to me and serves a purpose for the team,” the former Brisbane Roar player added. "There is no lack of motivation for the team.
"Things have not gone as well as I would have liked for me, but they have been things out of my control. The gaffer has got me more and more involved and hopefully I can make more of an impact.”
Ex-Blues winger Gary Roberts skippered Portsmouth and thought his side gave a good account of themselves: "We are the underdogs and will be at Fratton Park but we have shown we can play a bit.
"Our philosophy is the best form of defence is attack. It doesn’t always suit League Two but Ipswich play 4-4-2 and left us with lots of spaces to play our football.
"We have a strong squad, we are playing well and we have had a good first half of the season, so hopefully we can keep moving up and get out of this division.”
Roberts, 31, was with the Blues between October 2006 and July 2008, initially on loan from Accrington, and made 45 starts and 14 sub appearances, scoring four times.
He says he enjoyed his return: "It was great to come back and do well. I have not been back since I left. It was good to see a few old faces and get a ripple when I came off, I didn’t get many when I was here!
"We knocked the ball around quite well and passed the ball well. We will have another go in a couple of weeks.
"We knew how Ipswich would play. They are a typical Mick McCarthy side but we found gaps and caused problems.
"We fancy every game we go into now. We will have a packed Fratton Park, our supporters are outstanding and we will cause Ipswich problems again.
"There is a good feeling around the place. We have good numbers watching us, the right fella in charge and we are going places. We have a lot of goals in this team and not just the strikers.”
"I should have scored, I had a feeling I would even though I didn’t get many when I was here. One came to my head but I never score with the head, another was on my left but I snatched at it.”
The draw for the fourth round takes place tonight from 7pm live on BBC1's The One Show.
