Former Striker Could Face Jail - Ipswich Town News

Former Town striker Marcus Bent could face jail after admitting affray at Guildford Crown Court this morning.

The 37-year-old - who had previously entered a guilty plea for possessing cocaine - admitted threatening police with a kitchen knife and a meat cleaver at an incident at his Surrey home last September.

The court heard that police were responding to Bent calling to a report a break-in and claiming he had locked himself in his bathroom as a result.

But on their arrival the much-travelled former frontman brandished the cleaver towards a police officer and was Tasered by a colleague.

Judge Stephen Climie said: "On paper it is quite a disturbing set of events. It is a case where on the face of it a custodial sentence is justified, but I am not going to prejudge before sentencing."

Sentencing for both the affray and possession charges will take place on February 12th. Two further charges of possessing a bladed article will be left to lie on file.

Bent was with the Blues between November 2001 and June 2004, scoring 23 goals in 57 starts and 13 sub appearances.
