Fortuna Blues Back in Town - Ipswich Town News

Town’s Blue Army will once again be augmented by fans from German side Fortuna Düsseldorf when Preston North End visit Portman Road on Saturday.

The 100-strong Fortuna Blues party will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the start of their association with Town.

Ulli Münsterberg, chairman of the Fortuna Blues Branch of the Supporters Club, told TWTD: "It is the 10th anniversary of our pilgrimages. The first time in 2006 we saw the match against Portsmouth in the FA Cup and we had 95 lads with us that time.

"After that, we came regularly - at least once a year - and we followed Town to away matches as well, including a pre-season friendly at PSV Eindhoven and at Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers.

"The largest number we have brought so far was 170 - that was last year for the Derby match - and 125 the year before.

"The friendly match between both of our clubs in the summer at our club ground Flinger Broich has been another highlight, which drew an attendance of more than 5,000, including more than 600 ITFC supporters, as well as the big party afterwards at the Stahlwerk Disco!”

You can find the Facebook page dedicated to the friendship between fans of the two clubs here, while Ulli talks about how the link initially came about in a TWTD article from a couple of years ago here.

Ulli and a number of other Fortuna Blues will be appearing on Saturday’s Life’s a Pitch on Radio Suffolk (noon to 2pm).
