Town's reserves ran out 4-1 winners over a young Coventry side at the Playford Road training ground this afternoon. Goals from Darren Bent (2), Ulrich Le Pen and Martijn Reuser were enough to beat the Sky Blues.
Le Pen opened the scoring with a fine volley from a Reuser cross in the first minute. Coventry, in the regular sky blue while Town were in an unsponsored Academy whitle kit, hit back on 19 when Ford headed in a corner after Darren Bent had failed to stay with him. Bent had had a poor time of it up to then and missed three fine first half opportunities.
Reuser put Town back in front as Le Pen's left-eing cross found the Dutchman and he volley home. The second Town goal was almost a replay of the first, but from the opposite side.
Town's third came in the second half from the spot. Reuser made a 52nd minute run down the right, cut into the box and was felled by Whing. Bent had no trouble form the spot.
Le Pen had probably been Town's most incisive player, but on 56 was forced to leave the field. He fell holding his left knee after a challenge and stayed down and was taken away on the golf-style cart employed at the training ground.
The fourth and Bent's second came on 86 after Darren Ambrose had played a neat ball through the middle of the Coventry defence.
Fabian Wilnis told TWTD after the game: "It was a good 90 minute work-out."
Town side: Price, Wilnis, Croft, T Miller (Bloomfield 85), J Miller (Abidallah (70), Gaardsøe, Reuser, Ambrose, Couñago, Bent, Le Pen (Nicholls 60).
