Murph: We Need to Win at Huddersfield - Ipswich Town News

Striker Daryl Murphy has labelled tomorrow’s game at Huddersfield as a game Town must win to keep their play-off dream alive.

Three successive defeats, and four in their last five league outings, have seen Mick McCarthy’s men slide down the Championship table to 10th place, six points adrift of Sheffield Wednesday, who occupy sixth spot.

Murphy, who will be 33 next month, said: "I don’t think I would describe our recent run as worrying but obviously it’s not nice to be on the back of three straight defeats.

"We know that needs to change and we’ll be working on it in training to make sure it does.

"Are we in danger of missing out on the play-offs? Not necessarily, no. I think with this league, as you know, it’s just mad.

"I mean, look at Derby. Probably a month ago they couldn’t buy a win and they’re doing alright now, so it will change for us. It has to. We know we’re a good side but just at the minute we’re not producing really.

"We need to win at Huddersfield. We need to go there and want to win. We need the three points really if we want to get into the play-offs. We know it’s going to be tough but every game is tough and it can’t come quick enough now for us.”

Asked what he thought had gone wrong in recent weeks, the Republic of Ireland international responded: "It happens in football. Sometimes you do really well but you’ll also have your blips when things aren’t really going for you.

"We look back to the game at QPR when we lost but it could have gone either way — and then we went to Bristol City and lost again.

"It happened again on Tuesday against Hull and it’s not nice when you are losing. There’s stuff we need to look at and the manager is looking at, and we need to sort it out.

"We obviously look at replays of the games and look at our mistakes, where we concede goals and how we can create more chances and stuff like that.
"The gaffer always looks at stuff like that and the various stats in each game but it’s up to us as players to turn it around.

"He’s been there and done it so he has the experience and the know-how to deal with it. He has always said that it’s about where we finish at the end of the season and I agree with that.

"We’ve still got a good few games left so hopefully we can get a few wins, starting on Saturday at Huddersfield.”
