Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that right-back or midfielder Kyle Hammond will be released at the end of the season. As previously reported, a number of clubs, including Colchester United, are keen on the 20-year-old Blues academy product, whose one-year deal is up in the summer.
"Kyle is being released,” McCarthy said. "There’s been a bit of interest. He’s just waiting to see and keeping his powder dry to see what he wants to do.
"Kyle will be moving on, I wish him well. He had a really bad injury, his cruciate, if memory serves me right.
"It’s been difficult for him because there have been players in front of him. I wish him well, I hope he gets something else.”
Hammond was on the bench for Town during the FA Cup replay at Portsmouth recently but is still to make his senior debut and hasn’t been in a Championship matchday 18 this season.
The ex-Westbourne High School pupil was handed a one-year deal last summer after spending much of the previous two seasons out with knee injuries.
In terms of making further loan additions to his squad, he said: "There’s not a lot I can be looking at. I am happy with my squad and the ones that haven’t played they’ve been there all season and they deserve their chance to play.”
