Nilis to Thank Fans - Ipswich Town News

Former Aston Villa striker Luc Nilis says he is looking forward to thanking Town's supporters for their good wishes after his career-ending injury last season. The Belgian international broke his leg badly during the game when colliding with Richard Wright.

Nilis is a guest of David Sheepshanks at Saturday's game and is very much looking forward to his Portman Road visit: "After my accident I was touched by the kindness of the Ipswich supporters.

"They sent me letters, messages and cards when I was recovering, which was very much appreciated, and tomorrow is my chance to say a big thank-you to them all.

"I am also planning to go to the hospital on Saturday morning and see the doctors and nurses who did such a good job in helping me.

"I was very happy with the treatment I received and I will not have a problem coming back, to the scene of the accident or the hospital."

Nilis spent time in Ipswich Hospital after the collision with former Town keeper Richard Wright. George Burley and other Town representatives visited him in hospital.

These days the former PSV, Villa and Anderlecht man works for a sports marketing company after turning down a position at the Eindhoven club. This summer will see a pre-season tournament in his honour featuring several of his old clubs.
