McCarthy: No Target But I'd Take Seven Points From the Next Three - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Mick McCarthy admits he’d be happy with another seven points from the trio of games before the international break but says he’s aiming to win all three.

The Blues are at the Cardiff City Stadium this afternoon to face the Bluebirds, one place and goal difference ahead of eighth-placed Town, who in turn have a game in hand on the Welsh side.

On Tuesday, Blackburn, down in 16th but who have won three of their last four, are at Portman Road, before Rotherham, who have won three in a row under new manager Neil Warnock, make the trip to Suffolk on Saturday, prior to the two-week break.

Reflecting on the seven points from the last three matches against Huddersfield, Nottingham Forest and Bolton, McCarthy said: "We could have played better in the games but if you ask me if we could take seven points out of nine from the next three games, I’d be happy again, no matter how we play.

"And that’s really what it’s about. Yes, we could have played better, but we’ve played better and not won games. It really is about getting the points now.”

He added: "I’d take seven [points from the next three games] but the target is always to win all three.

"But let me tell you Cardiff are a good side. Blackburn I watched at Derby [last month when they lost 1-0] and I’ve seen them all season, I think they’ve got really good players. I think they’re a good team, I think they had a good result [winning 2-0 at home to Birmingham] the other night.

"Rotherham have just beaten Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough, so when I said I’d take seven points, I’m not setting a target but I’d take it now if we’d got that next Saturday.”
