Academy Showcase Against Spurs This Evening - Ipswich Town News

Town’s U15s face Tottenham Hotspur in this season’s Academy Showcase game at Portman Road this evening (KO 7pm).

The match has become an annual event over the last decade giving fans a chance to see the next generation of Blues, as well as promising players from the opposition with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Danny Welbeck having featured for Manchester United in previous games.

Last year, Town faced Norwich in a revival of the Hospital Cup with a return game away against the Canaries having been pencilled in for later this season.

"Playing on the main pitch is always a fantastic opportunity for any young player at a club and for most, if not all of our boys, it will be the first time they have played at Portman Road,” Town academy director Bryan Klug told the club site.

"The dressing rooms, coming out of the tunnel, playing in front of a crowd, it’s all great experience for them and gives them a taste of what it’s like to be a first-team player.

"We have held Academy Showcase games here over the last six or seven years against the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham and it’s great experience for our boys to come up against the big clubs.

"Academy football is all about player development and the game against Spurs is part of that development but most importantly, the boys need to go out and enjoy the experience.”

Admission to tonight’s match is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions/children with proceeds going to the Town academy and the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice.
